The history of Cajun seasoning is deeply intertwined with the rich cultural heritage of Louisiana and the culinary traditions of the Cajun people. It draws inspiration from the diverse cultures that influenced Louisiana's culinary landscape, including French, Spanish, African, and Native American influences.

Cajun seasoning, also known as "Creole seasoning", emerged as a blend of spices that reflect the vibrant flavours and preferences of the Cajun community. The seasoning was developed as a means to infuse their dishes with depth, complexity, and a touch of heat, creating a unique culinary identity. The spices were readily available and widely used in both French and African cuisines.

I tried to stay as authentic to this as possible while also thinking about what makes a delicious and versatile seasoning.

The essential ingredients of Cajun seasoning include paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, thyme, and basil, among others.
